Setting Up Connectors
Setting up connectors is the first step in using Two Minute Reports with Looker Studio. Connectors authenticate your external data sources so TMR can securely access the data you want to visualize.
Prerequisites
- An active Two Minute Reports account configured for Looker Studio
- Valid login credentials for each data source you want to connect
- Access to the Two Minute Reports Hub
Accessing the Connector Setup
Step 1: Go to the TMR Hub
Navigate to https://hub.twominutereports.com in your browser.
Step 2: Select Looker Studio
Choose Two Minute Reports for Looker Studio from the available options.
Step 3: View Available Connectors
You'll see a list of all available data source connectors. Browse by category (Advertising, Analytics, E-commerce, etc.) or use the search feature to find a specific connector.
Creating a Connection
Step 1: Select a Connector
Click on the connector you want to set up (e.g., Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Google Analytics).
Step 2: Click New Connection
Click the + New Connection button to create a new connection for that data source.
Step 3: Name Your Connection
Give the connection a descriptive name. This helps you identify it later, especially if you connect multiple accounts from the same platform (e.g., "Google Ads - Client A" vs "Google Ads - Client B").
Step 4: Authenticate
Click Authorize or Connect and follow the authentication process:
- You'll be redirected to the data source's login page
- Sign in with your account credentials
- Grant Two Minute Reports the necessary permissions
- You'll be redirected back to TMR Hub
Step 5: Verify the Connection
Once authenticated, the connection status should show as Connected or Active. You may need to:
- Select specific accounts (for platforms with multiple sub-accounts)
- Confirm which data sources or properties you want to access
- Grant additional permissions if prompted
Managing Multiple Accounts
Many TMR users connect multiple accounts from the same platform:
- Create separate connections for each account
- Use clear naming conventions (company name, region, or purpose)
- Enable/disable connections as needed
- Each connection maintains its own authentication and data access
Account Permissions
Different data sources require different permission levels:
Common Permission Types:
- View access - Read-only access to reports and metrics
- Edit access - Can modify campaigns, settings, or configurations
- Admin access - Full control, including billing and user management
TMR typically requires View access at minimum. Some connectors benefit from Edit access to access more granular data.
Data Freshness and Speed Boost
Once a connector is authenticated:
- TMR begins pre-caching your historical data (Warm-up phase)
- After warm-up completes, your data is available for querying
- Speed Boost automatically keeps data synced at regular intervals
- Subsequent queries run much faster because data is pre-cached
The warm-up process typically takes 5-30 minutes depending on data volume.
Reconnecting or Re-authenticating
If a connection stops working or expires:
- Click the connection in TMR Hub
- Select Re-authenticate or Reconnect
- Follow the authentication flow again
- Grant any new permissions that may be requested
This is sometimes necessary if:
- Your data source credentials change
- The connected account is revoked or suspended
- API tokens expire
- Permissions are modified
Supported Connectors
TMR includes connectors for 30+ platforms including:
- Advertising: Google Ads, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, TikTok Ads, Amazon Ads, and more
- Analytics: Google Analytics, Google Analytics 4
- E-commerce: Shopify, WooCommerce
- Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB
- APIs: Custom JSON API Bridge for any API source
See the full connector list in TMR Hub or in our Connectors documentation.
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
Connection failed or won't authenticate:
- Verify your login credentials are correct
- Check if your account is still active with the data source
- Some platforms require specific account types (e.g., business vs personal)
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting
"Permission denied" errors:
- You may not have sufficient permissions in the source account
- Log into the original platform and grant higher-level access
- Some platforms require additional API access to be enabled
- Contact the platform's support if permissions seem correct
Connection shows as "Limited" or "Restricted":
- The connected account doesn't have all required permissions
- Return to the data source and grant additional access
- Reconnect to update permissions in TMR
- Some platforms require separate approval for API access
No data appears in queries:
- Wait for the Speed Boost warm-up to complete
- Verify the connected account has data for your query parameters
- Check that you've enabled the account/connection for use
- Try reconnecting to refresh the connection
Security and Best Practices
- Use dedicated accounts when possible - Create dedicated reporting accounts for client work
- Monitor connected accounts - Periodically verify which accounts are connected
- Disconnect unused accounts - Remove connections you no longer need
- Keep credentials secure - Don't share login credentials; use TMR's connection system instead
- Review permissions regularly - Ensure accounts still have appropriate access levels
Contact [email protected] if you encounter persistent connection issues.
