Troubleshoot Looker Studio Issues
This guide helps you resolve common issues and errors you might encounter when using Two Minute Reports with Looker Studio.
Connection and Authentication Issues
Can't connect a data source
- Verify your login credentials are correct for that platform
- Ensure the account has the necessary permissions
- Some platforms require admin accounts or specific access levels
- Check that Two Factor Authentication isn't blocking the connection
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting the account
"Connection Failed" or "Authentication Error"
- Verify you have internet connectivity
- Check if the data source platform is experiencing outages
- Some platforms have rate limits; wait a few minutes and try again
- Ensure your account hasn't been suspended or deactivated
- Try reconnecting with updated credentials
Data source shows "Limited" or "Restricted" status
- The account doesn't have sufficient permissions in the source platform
- Log into the original platform and grant higher-level access
- Some connectors require additional API access to be enabled
- Reconnect to update permissions in TMR
Speed Boost warm-up is taking a long time
- Initial warm-up can take 5-30 minutes depending on data volume
- Large historical datasets take longer to cache
- This is normal and happens only on first connection
- Queries will be slower until warm-up completes
- You can proceed with other work while warm-up runs in background
Query Config and Data Issues
Query Config shows no data
- Wait for Speed Boost warm-up to complete
- Verify the account has data for your selected date range
- Check if filters are too restrictive and excluding all data
- Ensure the account is enabled for use in the connector
- Test with a broader date range to isolate the issue
Data looks incomplete or incorrect
- Compare results with the original data source
- Check for active filters that might be hiding data
- Verify date range settings, especially timezone differences
- Confirm metrics and dimensions are correct for that data source
- Try removing filters to see if data appears
Query returns different data each time
- Some platforms report data differently on different queries
- Data attribution windows can change (especially in advertising)
- Your source account data may have been updated or corrected
- Refresh rates vary; data may not be fully final until several hours after an event
Metrics or dimensions don't appear in Query Config
- Not all platforms expose all metrics in the TMR interface
- Some dimensions may not be available through the API
- Check your data source account to ensure you have permission
- Verify the account hasn't restricted certain data categories
- Contact support if specific metrics should be available
Looker Studio Report Issues
Report shows no data
- Verify the Query Config is connected (look for checkmark icon)
- Check that your date range contains data
- Ensure filters aren't excluding all data
- Verify the underlying Query Config has data by testing in TMR Hub
- Try removing filters to see if data appears
Charts won't display correctly
- Some chart types require specific data configurations
- Verify you have at least one dimension and one metric
- Try a different chart type (e.g., switch from pie to bar)
- Check if your metrics are compatible with your selected chart
- Rebuild the chart from scratch if issues persist
Report loads slowly
- Large Query Configs can impact performance
- Reduce the date range in your Query Config
- Limit the number of dimensions being shown
- Use filters to reduce the data volume
- Split complex reports into multiple simpler reports
- Check Looker Studio's built-in performance recommendations
Can't edit report
- Verify you have Editor or Owner permissions (check Share settings)
- Try refreshing the page
- Some organizations restrict report editing; contact your admin
- Try a different browser or clear your cache
- Sign out and back in to refresh your permissions
Data Freshness Issues
Data isn't updating
- TMR data refreshes on a schedule; it's not real-time
- Check your TMR account to verify refresh schedules are active
- Allow time for the scheduled refresh to complete
- Manual refreshes in TMR Hub might be required for immediate updates
- Verify the underlying data source still has current data
Data is stale or outdated
- Check your TMR refresh schedule
- Pause and resume the schedule to trigger a refresh
- Verify the data source account is still active and authorized
- Some data sources have inherent latency (data arrives 24-48 hours later)
Data changed unexpectedly
- Your source platform may have updated their data
- Some platforms correct historical data after initial reporting
- Check if filters or date ranges accidentally changed
- Compare with the original data source for verification
Sharing and Access Issues
Recipient can't access the report
- Verify their email address is spelled correctly
- Ensure they have a Google account (for non-public sharing)
- Check that share permissions were actually sent
- Ask them to look for the email in spam/junk folders
- Try resending the invitation
Report shows "No permission to view"
- The owner may have revoked your access
- You might be signed into a different Google account
- Try opening the report in an incognito/private browser window
- Ask the report owner to re-share it with you
Can't share the report
- Verify you're the report owner (have sufficient permissions)
- Some Google Workspace organizations restrict external sharing
- Contact your organization's Google Workspace admin
- Try sharing with internal team members first
Shared users see different data
- Some data sources require each user to authenticate separately
- Individual access permissions to the underlying data source may differ
- Check if your organization restricts data visibility
- Use a single shared account for reports that need consistent data visibility
Performance and Optimization
Report is loading very slowly
- Check the Query Config to see what data is being pulled
- Reduce the date range or limit dimensions
- Use filters to narrow the data
- Split large reports into multiple smaller focused reports
- Check your internet connection speed
Many users viewing report causes slowdowns
- Large simultaneous access can impact performance
- Consider caching strategies in your Query Config
- Use filtered views so users only see relevant data
- Optimize chart complexity
- Contact support if performance issues persist with multiple users
API or data source rate limits
- Some platforms limit API calls per hour or per day
- Break large reports into smaller queries
- Spread scheduled refreshes across different times
- Contact your data source provider about rate limit increases
Data Integration Issues
Blended reports show no data
- Ensure all data sources are connected and returning data
- Blending requires a common dimension between sources
- Verify blending is configured correctly in the report
- Test each data source separately first, then try blending
- Some data sources don't support blending
Multiple data sources conflict
- Each chart should use only one data source
- Use blending if you need to combine multiple sources in one chart
- Verify each source is configured with correct metrics/dimensions
- Simplify your report to focus on one data source at a time
Browser and Technical Issues
Report won't load
- Refresh the page
- Clear your browser cache and cookies
- Try a different browser
- Disable browser extensions that might interfere
- Ensure you have JavaScript enabled
Charts disappear or formatting breaks
- Refresh the report
- Clear browser cache
- Try viewing on a different device/browser
- Save and reopen the report
- Check if recent changes inadvertently broke something
Mobile view doesn't work properly
- Looker Studio reports are responsive but may need optimization
- Some charts may not display well on small screens
- Use filters and date controls instead of large tables
- Test your report on mobile devices before sharing
- Simplify complex visualizations

- Gather information:
- What you were trying to do
- Exact error messages (if any)
- Which data source you're using
- Whether it worked before and what changed
- Try basic troubleshooting:
- Refresh the page
- Clear cache and cookies
- Try a different browser
- Test the Query Config separately in TMR Hub
- Contact support:
- Email: [email protected]
- Chat: Use the chat button in TMR Hub
- Documentation: Search our knowledge base
- Provide helpful details:
- Screenshots of the error or issue
- Your TMR account email
- The report name (without sharing sensitive data)
- Steps to reproduce the issue

Common Error Messages
"Data source connection error"
- The Query Config can't connect to the data source
- Verify the connection is still active in TMR
- Check if the source account permissions are still valid
- Try reconnecting the account
"Invalid filter configuration"
- Your filter criteria is incompatible with your data
- Try removing filters and applying them one at a time
- Use filters from the dropdown instead of typing custom values
"Chart incompatible with data"
- This chart type doesn't work with your metrics/dimensions
- Switch to a compatible chart type
- Adjust your metrics or dimensions
"No data in selected date range"
- Your data source has no data for that period
- Expand the date range to include more data
- Check if the account was active during that time period
- Verify data exists in the source platform
